As we move into tax season, many small business owners and employees begin receiving important health insurance documents in the mail. One form you may see soon is Form 1095-B, also known as the Proof of Health Coverage. We want to make sure you know what this form is, who will receive it, and what, if anything, you need to do next.
When Will Form 1095-B Be Mailed?
Most insurance carriers began mailing 1095 forms at the end of January. Specifically, Health Net will start mailing Form 1095-B to eligible members on January 31, 2026. By law, insurance carriers have until March 2, 2026, to furnish this form, so don’t worry if it doesn’t arrive immediately.
Do You Need Form 1095-B to File Your Taxes?
The good news is that Form 1095-B is not required to file your 2025 federal or state tax return. You can still file your taxes even if you have not yet received the form.
That said, we strongly recommend keeping your 1095-B with your tax records. If the IRS or the California Franchise Tax Board (FTB) ever requests proof that you had health coverage, this form serves as documentation.
Who Will Receive Form 1095-B?
Health Net will mail Form 1095-B to members who had health coverage with them at any point during calendar year 2025, including:
- Individual & Family Plans (off-Exchange)
- Small Business Group plans
- Large Business Group plans
If you were enrolled in a Health Net Individual & Family Plan through Covered California, you will not receive a 1095-B from Health Net. Instead, Covered California will send you Form 1095-A directly.
In addition to mailing the form to members, Health Net will also send coverage information to the IRS and the California Franchise Tax Board to confirm reported months of coverage.
What Should You Do Next?
At this time, no action is required beyond watching your mail and retaining the form for your records once it arrives. If you believe your form is missing, have questions about which form you should receive, or want help understanding your health coverage documents, we’re here to help.
